Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Riccardo Calafiori but the defender looks to be closing in on a move to Arsenal instead.

Euro 2024 continues and Tottenham Hotspur are surely keeping an eye on a few players over in Germany.

Portugal winger Pedro Neto is on the radar with Tottenham fancying the Wolverhampton Wanderers ace.

Tottenham have just completed another signing with the arrival of Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray.

Ange Postecoglou will certainly want more additions this summer though and his role as a pundit for ITV means he has seen plenty of Euro 2024.

Some players must have popped onto the Tottenham manager’s radar this summer but one potential signing may end up heading to the red side of North London…

Arsenal close in on Tottenham Hotspur target Riccardo Calafiori

Italy have been sent packing from Euro 2024, crashing out in the last 16 with a drab 2-0 defeat at the hands of Switzerland.

The Azzurri were hugely disappointing in Germany and a poor display against Switzerland summed it up.

Very few Italian players turned in strong tournaments this summer but defender Riccardo Calafiori stood out.

The Bologna star impressed with his marauding runs forward, including setting up a crucial leveller against Croatia in the final group stage game.

Calafiori can play at left back and as a left-sided centre back, with his comfort on the ball certainly attracting interest.

Tottenham have shown a real interest in Calafiori with the pursuit going back as far as January.

Reports in June suggested that Tottenham would outbid Juventus for Calafiori, but the Italian giants may not be the problem.

Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Arsenal are now in ‘pole position’ to land Calafiori and have presented the best offer so far.

Di Marzio has also taken to social media to claim that Calafiori is ‘increasingly close’ to joining Arsenal for €50million (£42million).

Fabio Paratici may be disappointed

Johan Lange is taking the lead on Tottenhams’s recruitment but Fabio Paratici is still playing a role at the club.

The Italian serves as a consultant despite being banned from his previous position back in 2023.

Paratici is bound to have his eyes all over Italian football and Calafiori has been on this radar for a while now.

Tottenham could stand to add a left back who can also play at centre back, adding competition for Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven in one fell swoop.

Calafiori fit the bill perfectly and Paratici appears to been a driving force behind the rumoured Tottenham interest.

Paratici actually wanted to bring Calafiori to Juventus from Roma back in 2020 but no deal was done.

It’s no great surprise that Paratici has continued his interest in Calafiori, and Calciomercato suggested in May that Paratici had been recommending Calafiori to Spurs.

Paratici’s attempts to bring Calafiori to Tottenham not only look set to end in disappointment, but Spurs may now have to face him in North London derbies for years to come.
