Tottenham Hotspur cannot be ruled out of the running for a player who Ange Postecoglou knows very well.

The Lilywhites will be looking to bolster their squad with quality options in the summer as they look set to be playing European football.

What level of European action will be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is yet to be seen, but Champions League football is the target.

Forward additions are on the radar for Ange Postecoglou with the future of Timo Werner still not confirmed in north London.

The Spurs News spoke exclusively to HITC Football’s Graeme Bailey, who has claimed Tottenham are still a potential landing spot for the former Celtic winger, Jota.

Tottenham could still make a move for Jota this summer

The 24-year-old is a player who Postecoglou is all too familiar with having brought him to Parkhead during his time at Celtic.

Jota has since departed the Glasgow club and joined Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

However, the move has not worked out for the Portuguese winger having been left out of their league squad for the campaign.

As the former Celtic star looks for a route out of the Middle East, Bailey has claimed Spurs could still emerge as a suitor: “It might end up being someone who plays centrally, you know, it might end up being someone who plays out wide,” he said.

“I think Spurs are in a healthy position where they’re pretty open. I wouldn’t rule out an interest in Jota again, you know, we know he’s a player who Ange likes. And depending on what his situation is, if he’s a free or you have to pay for him, you know, I don’t think that situation will go away. So it depends what things present themselves, as well.”

What Postecoglou has previously said about Jota

Jota became a fan favourite during his time at Celtic Park having returning an impressive 28 goals and 26 assists in his 83 appearances.

His career has been put on pause for several months as the move to the Saudi Pro League has proven to be a disaster.

But he is a player who Tottenham’s Australian manager is a huge fan of. During their time together at Parkhead, Postecoglou said: “We know his form has been outstanding for us, both domestically and in Europe, over the last sort of 16-17 months he’s been with us.

“I’m sure it’s encouraging for him because he probably came to us 18 months ago, just wanting to kick-start his career and in a very short space of time, now he’s within national team recognition.”

Tottenham are still assessing Werner ahead of the summer where they have the option to sign the German permanently for £15m.

Postecoglou already has a number of quality options at his disposal in Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.

But a new forward is viewed as a key area for Spurs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
