Tottenham Hotspur have been through big changes under Ange Postecoglou but the last year has been difficult for one former Spurs man.

After the drab football served up under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, Tottenham Hotspur went down a different route.

In came Ange Postecoglou as he promised to bring a brand of all-out attacking football with real entertainment value.

Tottenham showed promising signs in Postecoglou’s first six months in charge but the results have been a little more mixed.

Postecoglou has brought real changes to the Tottenham squad since arriving with the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson arriving.

This has also meant a number of departures with Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Emerson Royal, Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp among those to move on – oh, and Harry Kane.

Ivan Perisic nearing Champions League move

Then there is Ivan Perisic, who did actually start last season by making an impact off the bench for Tottenham.

A major knee injury in September last year saw Perisic ruled out for the rest of 2023 and he then completed a move to Hajduk Split.

This was seen as the dream ending for Perisic, a return to his hometown and boyhood club having been in their ranks as a kid.

Perisic was brought in to try and secure the league title for Hajduk but it all went horribly wrong as they missed out on top spot.

The wide man’s situation has got even worse as a public spat with new boss Gennaro Gattuso – once linked with Tottenham in the infamous summer of 2021 – saw him released by Hajduk.

The dream return home turned into a nightmare for the Croatian and he now finds himself without a club.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that PSV Eindhoven are in talks to sign Perisic on a free transfer.

The Dutch side lost 3-1 to Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and are looking to finalise the signing of Perisic this week.

Romano claims that Perisic is an ‘important target’ for PSV and talks are now ongoing over a deal.

Perisic could win a league title

Joining Hajduk was supposed to give Perisic a real shot at winning a league title.

That went horribly wrong but Perisic will now be in contention for silverware once again if his move to PSV goes through.

PSV romped to the Eredivsie title last season, losing just one of their 34 league games on their way to a 91-point season.

Peter Bosz’s side are already top of the Eredivisie this season, boasting five wins from five games with 20 goals scored and just three conceded.

Ajax are rebuilding and Feyenoord are in a new era having seen manager Arne Slot join Liverpool over the summer.

That means PSV are hot favourites for the title and Bosz may see former Spurs man Perisic as a key addition to his title aspirations.
