Club director shares how close his side are to signing £20m Tottenham player this summer

Tottenham Hotspur may now be forced to find an alternative option for one of the players on their summer transfer list.

Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy have not wasted any time in offloading some of the players who are not viewed as useful options for the Australian.

Tanguy Ndombele‘s contract termination highlighted just that as Spurs ruthlessly waved the Frenchman off as a free transfer.

Despite making a solid start to the window when it comes to outgoings, there is still a number of players who could still depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But one of those players may be left waiting on his possible exit this summer following some recent comments made by the director of one interested club.

Tottenham outcast remains in limbo over his future

Djed Spence‘s time at Tottenham has never got going with the Englishman arriving to a hostile welcoming back in 2022.

Manager at the time Antonio Conte slammed the £20m arrival of the right-back as a ‘club signing’ before then only using the defender for a matter of minutes.

His opportunities under Postecoglou have not seen any improvement with the Australian loaning Spence straight out to Leeds United before then moving on to Genoa.

And it is in Italy where Spence found his feet after a couple of seasons of sitting on the bench which has opened up the possibility of a return to the Italian outfit.

Genoa director Marco Ottolini has now spoken out on where the potential deal between the Serie A side and Spurs this summer.

“Anything can happen with 55 days ahead of us,” said the Genoa director.

“At the moment, there’s no agreement with Spurs and no conditions to make it happen”.

Tottenham opportunities ruled out for Djed Spence

After making the signing of Archie Gray this week, Tottenham have substantial coverage in the right-back position.

The versatile midfielder has shown during his time in the Championship with Leeds United that he is also capable of playing in defence.

Emerson Royal looks set to be heading for the exit at Hotspur Way with AC Milan keen to bring in the Brazilian this summer.

With Pedro Porro nailing down the spot in the starting XI, opportunities for Spence would be extremely hard to come by considering he was quickly snubbed by Postecoglou last summer.
