Tottenham Hotspur may now consider not taking up Timo Werner’s permanent option at the end of his loan deal.

The German forward landed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month on an initial loan basis from RB Leipzig.

But his long-term future at Tottenham may now be in doubt as their plans for the summer have been revealed.

Werner option may be snubbed

It had been suggested Timo Werner’s permanent option was likely to be taken up by Spurs as the price to buy him was considerably low.

However, speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones has now suggested this may not be the case anymore as the German’s future remains up in the air.

The transfer guru has claimed Spurs are going into the summer market with a winger on their radar.

“They are definitely in the market for a winger, more than they are in the market for a striker at this moment in time,” he said.

Obviously, they have got options right now, but it is very much up in the air whether Timo Werner will stay or not. You would probably err on the side of not, at the moment.

“Either way, I think Tottenham still might look to get somebody else in for the longer-term.”

Tottenham eyeing new winger

Although the winter market has only just shut, there have already been a number of wingers linked with a potential move to Hotspur Way.

Barcelona’s Raphinha is one player who has been linked with a possible return to the Premier League and Spurs are believed to be keen on him.

The Brazilian left Leeds United a number of years ago now to play at the Nou Camp, a move which has not really paid off.

And another winger who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar is Wolves star Pedro Neto.

But there has recently been a potential blow to Tottenham’s interest in the 23-year-old with Wolves setting out their huge valuation for their winger.

Werner’s start to life at Tottenham began with two assists in his opening appearances, but now Heung-min Son has returned to the fold, he looks to be a rotation player at best.

There’s still plenty of time for the 27-year-old to show Postecoglou what he can do, but it may be viewed that Spurs could find an upgrade in the summer.
