Ange Postecoglou has shared the one signing Tottenham Hotspur need to make in the January transfer window.

Speaking to the media ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Nottingham Forest tomorrow, the Aussie boss didn’t shy away from admitting Spurs’ need to sign a new centre-back.

Tottenham have been left short of options in the position over the past few weeks, with Micky van de Ven ruled out until the new year

Cristian Romero has recently returned from a three-match suspension but he’s being partnered by left-back Ben Davies at the moment.

The Welshman has put in some solid displays so far but it’s evident Tottenham need to address this area of the squad.

Now, Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about Davies’ recent displays and admitted the need to bring in another centre-back.

As quoted by Football.London, Postecoglou was full of praise for Davies but admitted he wants to sign a centre-back in January.

“I thought Ben Davies was outstanding,” the Spurs boss said. “He’s getting a run of games.

“We’ve got to be mindful he’s not a centre-back and he’s growing into that role. Ben is still adapting to it. He’s done remarkably well.

“Centre-back is still a position, especially in our structure, where you need outstanding attributes and we’ve been very fortunate to have him that he’s been able to adapt there.

“He’s great at taking on information. He’s been helped by having Romero back and Vic has taken on a leadership role back there as well.

“We need to sign another centre-back though because at the moment we’re only tenterhooks in case something else happens there.”

It’s no secret that Spurs will be in the market for a new defender next month and a host of names have been linked already.

Indeed, the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, Marc Guehi and Lloyd Kelly have all been mentioned as possible targets.

In our view, Tottenham need to do their business as early as possible in January. It remains unclear at what point in the new year Van de Ven will return from injury.

It would be a huge boost to get a centre-back through the door early, allowing us to focus on other opportunities as the window goes on.

Postecoglou has made it clear he wants a new centre-back, just like he did in the summer, and now it’s over to Daniel Levy to deliver.
