Ange Postecoglou dealt transfer blow after Brighton make decision over £40M Tottenham target, Cristian Romero needs to get involved

Following their wildly inconsistent start to the season, Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to hand Ange Postecoglou transfer supplies in January.

Central defence appears to be the priority for Postecoglou in January, although Tottenham are also looking at other areas.

The North London club need to add to their forward line as whilst they have shown frailties in defence, finding consistency in front of goal has also been an issue.

However, Spurs have just been dealt a blow over one of their key targets, as Brighton have already decided the future of one of their impressive players.

Brighton don’t want to sell Tottenham target Facundo Buonanotte

Brighton have no plans to sell Leicester City loanee Facundo Buonanotte, according to talkSPORT. Plenty of Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the forward, with Tottenham, in particular, tracking his progress.

Buonanotte has impressed at the King Power Stadium on loan this season having produced three goals and two assists in ten Premier League appearances.

The 19-year-old’s form has earned him a call-up to the Argentinian national team where he is currently spending time with Spurs’ Cristian Romero. The North London club may need to get their defender on the case with Buonanotte and convince him to push for a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Buonanotte has mostly operated as a number ten for the Foxes this term although he can also play on the right-hand side, a position the Lilywhites need to upgrade.

How does Buonanotte compare to Johnson and Maddison?

Buonanotte’s stats compared to Brennan Johnson and James Maddison don’t make for great reading though as the Spurs duo are above him in most key departments.

Despite Maddison losing his place in Postecoglou’s team, he leads both players in most key passing stats by quite some way too.

Buonanotte is still much younger than both though and playing for the team sat 15th in the Premier League, so making a true comparison is a tad unfair.
