Tottenham Hotspur are set to recall yet another player from loan this January.

The news broke on Tuesday morning that academy starlet Alfie Devine was to be recalled from his loan spell at Port Vale in League One.

The 19-year-old Tottenham loanee was smashing it at Vale. He was a regular first-team member for his loan side, which suggests that Ange Postecoglou is recalling him to send him out again to another side higher up in the English pyramid.

In contrast to Devine, Japhet Tanganga has had a torrid time during his loan spell. He’s also set to be recalled.

Japhet Tanganga to be recalled, then shipped out of Tottenham again

Tanganga joined FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga on a season-long loan back in September 2023, but it appears Tottenham Hotspur are set to cut this short.

Reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano stated the following on Wednesday on the 24-year-old’s situation:

‘The plan is to recall the defender as he’s never playing at Augsburg. New loan expected as Spurs want to find a solution for Tanganga as soon as possible.’

Ange Postecoglou will want to get this one done and dusted as soon as possible, Tanganga simply needs game time.

One of the worst loan spells ever for Japhet Tanganga?

During his time in Germany, Tanganga featured zero times for Augsburg. A lot of this was down to injury, to begin with, but the nail in the coffin came when the Bundesliga side sacked their manager.

Augsburg fired head coach Enrico Maaßen after just one win from its opening seven games in the league. They replaced him with Jess Thorup – who doesn’t believe there’s a place in the first-team squad for the Spurs loanee.

At just 24, Tanganga needs to be playing regular football. Let’s hope the next club he seeks out provides him with some much-needed minutes on the pitch.
