Emerson Royal is reportedly happy to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this month despite interest from Saudi Arabia.

That’s according to talkSPORT, with the outlet claiming that Royal is content with life at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou at the moment.

The Brazilian defender has received interest from Al-Nassr this month and the Saudi Pro League outfit even had an offer for Royal knocked back by Tottenham on Sunday.

The bid was believed to be worth around £21 million, with Al-Nassr now weighing up an improved offer for the 25-year-old.

But should they present Spurs with an offer the north London club simply cannot refuse, the Saudi club may face an uphill battle when it comes to convincing Royal to make the switch the Middle East.

Emerson Royal wants to stay at Tottenham

Royal’s efforts this season haven’t gone unnoticed by Postecoglou, talkSPORT claims.

The former Barcelona man has covered across the backline and despite not being first-choice under the Aussie, he’s proven to be an important player this term.

It’s claimed that Spurs are reluctant to lose the defender after he’s emerged as a decent squad option for Postecoglou.

Royal is also understood to be happy in north London under Postecoglou’s guidance.

Despite being behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order at the moment, Royal has managed 18 appearances in all competitions this season.

That’s largely down to recent injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, with Royal often filling in at centre-back. But you can understand why Tottenham are reluctant to lose the defender at the moment.

Royal is hardly an ideal fit for Postecoglou’s system but his versatility has been a huge asset for Spurs of late.

He’s a player who has divided opinion since his £26 million move from Barcelona in 2021. Yet, it would possibly make more sense for Spurs to weigh up his long-term future in the summer, rather than in the middle of a campaign.
