Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned down an approach from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr for Emerson Royal.

The Sun’s Tom Barclay broke the news on Sunday afternoon and claims Spurs have knocked back a bid for the defender.

It remains unclear just how much the offer from Al-Nassr was worth but the journalist states that Royal is ‘happy’ in north London for the time being.

The Saudi Pro League outfit are thought to be readying another offer to test Tottenham’s resolve though.

Tottenham reject Al-Nassr bid for Emerson Royal

Barclay took to social media on Sunday and claimed that Spurs have rejected an approach from Al-Nassr for Royal.

He wrote: “Tottenham have rejected a bid from Al-Nassr for Emerson Royal.

“Emerson understood to be happy at Spurs, but Al-Nassr (where Ronaldo plays) also believed to be readying another offer.”

Royal is certainly a player who has divided opinion amongst Spurs fans since his £26 million switch to north London in the summer of 2021.

The Brazilian full-back initially struggled to adapt to playing as a wing-back under Antonio Conte, with his work in the attacking third leaving plenty to be desired.

Despite the fact he’s currently behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou, he’s proven to be an important part of the squad this season.

The 25-year-old has filled in at centre-back alongside Ben Davies while both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been sidelined. He’s also slotted in at left-back on the odd occasion and is a useful player for Postecoglou to have around at the moment.

You can understand why Spurs wouldn’t be keen on selling Royal mid-season after their struggles with defensive injuries during the current campaign.

It’s clear that Royal isn’t exactly a natural fit for Postecoglou’s system. But if they were to offload him this month, it would force them into the market to find a suitable replacement.
