Chelsea are set to sell Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has admitted that he expects the defender to leave Stamford Bridge in the new year after both Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest tried to sign him on deadline day.

Chalobah burst onto the scene at Chelsea in 2021 and has since racked up 45 appearances in the Premier League, however he has found himself falling down the pecking order following Todd Boehly’s giant spending spree.

The arrivals of the likes of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, as well as the return of Levi Colwill from his loan spell, has left Chalobah without any game time since May.

The Blues made their intentions to sell Chalobah clear over the summer and Spurs were reportedly eager to sign him up.

Ange Postecoglou welcomed Micky van de Ven to the club during the window but was also eager to add another centre-back, with Eric Dier potentially on his way out.

Tottenham made a last-ditch attempt to sign Chalobah on deadline day but failed with their bid. However, Postecoglou could be handed another opportunity in the January transfer window.

Trevoh Chalobah is expected to leave Chelsea this season

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Tottenham were a possibility in the final hours of deadline day but nothing concrete because Tottenham didn’t sell Eric Dier as they wanted to make room for Chalobah.

“But in the last 24 hours, we’ve heard that Chalobah is already almost sure of not playing for Chelsea after rejecting a permanent transfer from Nottingham Forest.

“The point is very clear on the player’s side is that sources confirm Chalobah expects to leave Chelsea in January. So the feeling on the club and player side is that something will happen for Chalobah to leave Chelsea.

“That’s the feeling for the English centre-back and I expect from, my sources, for Chalobah to leave Chelsea in January.”
