Tottenham face another huge summer transfer window, which will involve some bold decisions from Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs are approaching the one-year mark under the manager, marking the start of a project to rebuild the club back to the top.

The past 12 months have seen the Lilywhites delve into the market for key stars such as Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario and Brennan Johnson.

Improvement on the pitch has followed suit, with Ange Postecoglou delivering both results and an entertaining style of play.

While there remains uncertainty as to whether Tottenham will secure Champions League qualification, the progress is clear to see.

It’s now up to the Spurs owners, recruitment team and manager to take the next step over the course of the summer transfer window.

Timo Werner’s Tottenham loan spell

One of the key decisions facing Tottenham this summer surrounds the permanent acquisition of Timo Werner.

The former Chelsea striker joined Spurs in the January window on an initial loan deal from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

A £15million clause was inserted in the loan deal that could facilitate a permanent switch, though reports have claimed that Tottenham prefer another loan deal for Werner.

That said, the spell so far has brought about some positive moments on the left wing, covering for injuries and international call-ups in early 2024.

Despite only scoring twice on his Premier League return, with three assists also to his name, the 28-year-old appears to have settled well.

The jury is still out over a possible permanent transfer, but Spurs won’t get another preview of his ability before the summer window, following a season-ending injury for Werner.

Timo Werner to Tottenham transfer decision

With Werner’s Tottenham loan spell all but wrapped up, there is a decision to make over whether a permanent move is triggered or not.

While there are questions over his goal involvements, there are no doubts over his commitment to the cause and the tactical flexibility he offers.

The German international is, at the very least, a very good squad option and it would be tough to find anyone better for just £15million in the current market.

Werner can cover both flanks and at centre-forward if required, with a blistering pace that can infiltrate opposition defences with ease.

As European football awaits and Postecoglou looks to keep improving, the best way to build his squad may be through raising the floor rather than the ceiling – bringing in those that offer a baseline of performances and can come in when required.

He isn’t the goal scorer people expected, nor is he tearing up Europe every week, but Werner is an option that strengthens Tottenham across the board.
