Tottenham star has proven Harry Redknapp wrong and Ange Postecoglou right this season

Tottenham have had some serious stand-out performers this season.

The likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and so many more have all been lauded to the rafters with praise on their performances.

And, rightly so. They’ve all been phenomenal in their own rights. However, there have been some players at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season who are a little more underappreciated than most.

Richarlison fits that bracket, and has proven the doubters wrong wrong this season – and then some.

Harry Redknapp on Richarlison

Before the beginning of the season, Harry Redknapp spoke to BEINSPORTS on how he thought Richarlison would do as Spiurs’ leading number nine – seemingly not very well.

“[Richarlison] can’t fill Harry [Kane’s] boots,” Redknapp told Stats Perform. “No, he’s not on the same level as Harry Kane.

“He’s got to do better than what he did last year for sure. He’s played for the Brazilian team and is a regular for them, he played at the World Cup. [He] scored goals at Everton, did okay there.

“I think Son will play through the middle. They’ll let him off the leash and stick him through the middle. I think that’s where he wants to play. He’ll score goals, he will get between 15 and 20 goals, I think.

“But Harry Kane and Son together is definitely better than Son on his own. So that is the problem.”

Alongside Redknapp, Richarlison was also doubted as Spurs’ leading man. How he’s proven them wrong, particularly as of late.

Of course – Redknapp has been proven wrong. Richarlison now has seven in his last seven games for Tottenham Hotspur and has cemented himself as a vital first-team squad player.

Son has played up front a few times, but now it’s apparent that Postecoglou trusts Richy up top ever with the South Korean in the side.

Postecoglou should be commended for this. He had the Harry Kane money and could have gone and splashed out on a striker, but chose to keep faith in the Brazilian. Now, he’s reaping the rewards, and Spurs fans will be hoping it continues.
