Tottenham Hotspur are so unlucky that one of their key players is about to get banned right after one of his best performances of the season.

Spurs came from behind to defeat Brentford on Saturday as Bryan Mbeumo handed the visitors the lead after just 26 seconds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But the Lilywhites produced an emphatic response as goals from Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and James Maddison secured the three points.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were impressive against the Bees as they finally converted possession and chances into goals and a win. One player in particular caught the eye, although, he is about to serve a ban.

Rodrigo Bentancur had one of his best performances in quite some time as the midfielder looked like the player he was before his two major injuries.

The Uruguayan ran the midfield against Brentford making key interceptions, gliding around the pitch and helping to make Spurs tick.

For several months now, we haven’t seen the Bentancur that made him one of the best midfielders in the league. The 27-year-old had been struggling to regain his form following ligament damage in his knee and ankle.

The two injuries have affected him both mentally and physically, but in the win over Brentford, he was excellent.

However, his upturn in form is about to come at just the wrong moment as he is set to be hit with a lengthy ban.

Benatcur is expected to be banned for six to 12 matches having been charged by the FA for ‘misconduct in an interview’ following comments aimed at teammate Heung-min Son. Spurs are still awaiting the verdict and are likely to lose him for a fair period.

Tottenham fans gutted about Bentancur’s ban

Tottenham fans were also full of praise for Bentancur’s display against Thomas Frank’s team and could not believe it came just before his ban.

Spurs fans took to X to express their appreciation for his performance but also disappointment at the fact they are about to lose him to suspension.

One fan said; “Rodrigo Bentancur appreciation post. Top performance today, tidying up at the back and carrying the ball forward and any opportunity. Real shame his conduct and language are going to cost him and the team when he gets his ban.”

“Bentancur is in good form and will soon probably get a huge ban. Bissouma was in good form and then got injured during international duty. We’ll never catch a break,” another added.
