Tottenham Hotspur’s 2023/24 campaign has now come to an end in the Premier League and what a rollercoaster of a season it has turned out to be.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first term in charge of Tottenham has produced a lot of improvement but some clear areas for improvement over the summer.

It promises to be a busy summer for Daniel Levy with the Australian manager already claiming a number of players are going to be moved on as ‘change’ arrives.

Qualifying for Europa League football is a step in the right direction as Tottenham’s project under Postecoglou lifts off.

With a lot of positives and negatives to take out of the 2023/24 campaign, here is The Spurs News‘ end-of-season awards.

Player of the Season – Cristian Romero

Postecoglou made a big call in the summer when he chose Cristian Romero to become the vice-captain behind Heung-min Son.

The Argentine carried the tag of being a real loose cannon since landing at Hotspur Way and there was potential for this to set the wrong example to the team.

However, it has turned out to be a masterstroke of a decision with the World Cup winner dramatically cleaning up his discipline record.

Alongside that, he has been one of the consistently brilliant players across the entirety of the campaign and has formed a solid partnership at the back with Micky van de Ven.

Spurs fans have seen Romero fight for the badge when it comes to his national side and it now feels like he is doing exactly that for Spurs under Postecoglou.

Signing of the Season – Micky van de Ven

It was a close call between the two centre-backs for who would take the Player of the Season award, Van de Ven came in at a close second.

Perhaps it is his injury absences which helped to tip the balance in Romero’s favour. Regardless, what a signing he has been for Tottenham.

The Dutchman has transformed the way Tottenham are able to defend with a high defensive line due to his staggering pace.

Van de Ven has become the Premier League’s fastest recorded player since their records begun since arriving last summer.

And he looks like a player who is going to be a big part of Tottenham’s future.

Young Player of the Season – Destiny Udogie

Van de Ven could well have sweeped up this award too having just turned 23-years-old. However, Destiny Udogie has also adapted incredibly well to life in England.

The Italian finally joined up with Spurs having signed back in 2022 from Udinese before returning on a season-long loan deal.

And it is fair to say the 21-year-old has made the left-back spot his own already. The youngster made 28 appearances in the Premier League before surgery cut his season short just before the North London Derby.

He was so impressive in his first season in England, even Ashley Cole praised his efforts.

“You have to be better in all areas of the pitch. Technically, you have to be better than my generation of full-back, which you have to applaud and give credit to the top ones – Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Reece James, [Andy] Robertson, bombing up and down, and can do everything. Udogie at Tottenham I think is elite,” Cole said earlier this year.

Surprise of the Season – Guglielmo Vicario

After signing this summer as the heir to Hugo Lloris‘ throne, not many will have known what to expect from Guglielmo Vicario.

But the Italian goalkeeper has excelled in his first season in the Premier League where he has played every single minute of action for Spurs.

There have been some struggles for the 27-year-old of late in dealing with corners but he is still adapting to life in a physical league.

The overwhelming take away from Vicario’s first season has been really positive with the shot stopper looking like a solid choice for years to come.

Goals of the Season – Pedro Porro vs Burnley

It does not feel as if Tottenham have had too many long-range strikes to celebrate this season but the ones that could fall into this category have mainly come against Burnley.

Romero produced a stunning strike against the Clarets at Turf Moor earlier in the season, but it is Pedro Porro who takes home the prize.

In what was one of the more boring games of the campaign, Porro produced a sensational strike from outside of the box to secure Spurs a spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It has been a fruitful season for the Spaniard with four goals in all competitions and each of them have been powerful strikes from the right-back who’s proven to be a real attacking threat.

Disappointment of the Season – Yves Bissouma

There is certainly an argument for James Maddison falling into this category having really struggled to return to his impressive form following his injury.

However, Yves Bissouma has potentially now cost himself his spot at the club after a seriously disappointing campaign.

The Mali midfielder actually started the campaign off incredibly well, but since his red card against Luton Town he has looked like a shadow of that player.

Bissouma even became the club’s biggest underperformer earlier in the campaign having fallen off so heavily from his early season displays.

With change expected in north London, Bissouma is a player who the club are now believed to be open to selling.

Game of the Season – Tottenham 1-4 Chelsea

Choosing a game which Spurs were beaten heavily in may seem like an odd choice when an impressive draw at the Etihad was also earned this season.

However, that game against Chelsea was just inches away from seeing Tottenham progress in what had been a sensational start to the campaign.

Son’s offside goal saw the game swing with red cards and injuries marking what turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for Spurs.

However, this was the game where the fans and media learnt a lot about what was to come from Postecoglou’s Tottenham.

This is the game which many will look back on if the Australian is able to bring silverware to Spurs as it set to benchmark for the style of football which is going to be played under the 58-year-old.

Tottenham fans learnt a lot more about their team that night than what three points would have provided them with.
