Tottenham Hotspur made several good signings during the summer transfer window, including on deadline day.

Spurs brought in Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain in the final hours of the market, with the striker joining them on loan.

Before his arrival, they also signed Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, and the latter already looks to be at home.

Thomas Frank has not had the opportunity to unleash Simons yet, but you can argue that he is Tottenham’s most important signing of the summer.

Tottenham really needed Xavi Simons to replace James Maddison and send Premier League rivals a message

Spurs already had a quality attacking midfielder in James Maddison, while Dejan Kulusevski can also play behind the striker.

However, both men are currently out injured, with Maddison expected to miss the majority of the Premier League campaign after undergoing ACL surgery.

With that in mind, Simons was the perfect addition to Frank’s squad. The 22-year-old is an attacking midfielder who is capable of scoring and creating goals.

In 25 Bundesliga appearances last season, Simons came up with 17 goal contributions — an impressive return.

Simons is also a very important signing for Tottenham off the pitch. Chelsea’s interest in the Dutchman before his move to north London was well-documented.

The fact that he ended up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead is a message to Spurs’ rivals that they can sign top talent.

Spending a lot of money to improve their attack, the Europa League winners and Frank could concentrate on their backline in the new year. It is thought that Tottenham have an interest in Jan Paul van Hecke of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Dani Olmo hails Xavi Simons as the ‘complete player’

In the eyes of Barcelona playmaker Dani Olmo, who was once Simons’ teammate at RB Leipzig, the Netherlands international is the “complete player”.

Speaking to Leipzig’s official club website during the 2023/24 season, Olmo said: “He’s a really complete player and for us, for our system, for how we play, our ideas, the coaches’ ideas, it is perfect for us. Now he’s in a really good mood, in a really good shape so this is very helpful.”

Simons now has the chance to prove that in the most competitive league in the world.
