Four Tottenham Hotspur goalkeepers trained ahead of Spurs’ Europa League clash with AS Roma as Ange Postecoglou searches for an alternative to Guglielmo Vicario.
Fraser Forster looks set to be Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice goalkeeper for the next couple of months as Tottenham wait for the Italian to return.
Vicario is expected to miss six to 10 weeks following a collision with Savinho in the first half of Spurs’ 4-0 win over City at the Etihad Stadium.
But ahead of their European clash with Roma, Postecoglou may have just been offered an alternative to Forster in one of the North London club’s emerging, young talents.

The four Tottenham goalkeepers who trained ahead of Roma
Tottenham had four goalkeepers train ahead of the Europa League clash with AS Roma. Fraser Forster was present with the veteran expected to be the team’s first-choice now. Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin were also training although neither are likely to be given a chance.
However, also part of Postecoglou’s group of goalkeepers was the talented Luca Gunter who is very highly rated around the club. Legendary goalkeeper Pat Jennings is a big fan of the 19-year-old.
Jennings was in attendance as Tottenham U23s won the Premier League 2 last season and the pair got a picture together. Gunter played a big role in helping Spurs’ youngsters to win the league title.
| Player | Age | Appearances for Spurs |
| Fraser Forster | 36 | 24 |
| Brandon Austin | 25 | 0 |
| Alfie Whiteman | 26 | 1 |
| Luca Gunter | 19 | 0 |
Postecoglou should trust Luca Gunter over Fraser Forster
Postecoglou revealed in his press conference Tottenham will not be signing a goalkeeper in January meaning he will have to pick from the four options available to him.
But instead of going for the obvious choice in Forster, he should give Gunter his debut who has really impressed for the Under-23s and during pre-season with the first-team.
The teenager was given game time during pre-season in wins over QPR and Hearts keeping clean sheets in both games.
The Australian manager should at least give him a chance against Roma, even if that means coming off the bench. Gunter is yet to experience competitive senior action and with Vicario out now could be his chance.
