Manchester United have just confirmed the dismissal of Erik ten Hag following their 2-1 defeat to West Ham United and the team sat down in 14th.

The Red Devils have made a poor start to the new campaign having lost four of their first nine league matches, including against Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have had struggles of their own this season but still managed to steamroll United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman manager did manage to deliver two trophies during his time in Manchester, however, following last season’s 8th-place and a shocking start to this term, they decided to sack him.

Tottenham have previously held an admiration for Ten Hag and even closely followed him after they removed Jose Mourinho, but there was a clear reason why they steered clear of him back in 2021.

Why Tottenham rejected Erik ten Hag

Many Tottenham supporters will want to erase from their memories the search for a new manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in 2021. The North London club went 72 days before eventually choosing Nuno Espirito Santo as the man to replace Mourinho.

They managed to go through several candidates during that time and came close to appointing other coaches, however, following failed interviews and rejections, they ended up with Nuno.

Ten Hag was a strong contender for the Spurs job, but the North London club opted against appointing him following the final interview stage.

The Lilywhites decided that Ten Hag lacked charisma, his English speaking was deemed to only be adequate and they found it odd he wanted to bring just one coach with him, according to the Daily Mail.

Ultimately, Daniel Levy’s decision to go against Ten Hag proved to be right, but the fact Spurs have had three different managers shows the club have issues of their own.

Is Ange Postecoglou at risk of being sacked by Tottenham?

Not at this stage, for sure. But the number of fans who want him gone is starting to grow following the team’s defeat at Crystal Palace.

Tottenham limped to a 1-0 defeat at Selhurst Park as they were on the end of yet another loss away from home. Spurs’ away record under the Australian manager is quite alarming with eight wins, seven draws and nine losses from his 24 games.

Postecoglou needs to address the team’s weak mentality when they go away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Guglielmo Vicario admitting the team lacked fight against Palace. Losing games on quality is one thing, but not being up for the fight is unacceptable and needs to be fixed qucikly.
