Tottenham Hotspur have been busy on the transfer front this summer, with a host of new signings on board and numerous outgoings.

Spurs signed Archie Gray from Leeds United early on in the window and followed it up by securing the signature of Yang Min-hyuk from FC Gangwon.

In addition, Timo Werner has re-signed on loan from RB Leipzig and Lucas Bergvall has arrived at N17 from Djurgarden.

Now, with just two weeks until transfer deadline day, Tottenham have made two signings already in August.

First, Spurs broke their club transfer record to sign England international striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

And now, Tottenham have signed Wilson Odobert from Burnley, a signing that virtually nobody saw coming prior to Friday morning.

Wilson Odobert was born on 28 November 2004 in the French town of Meaux, around 25 miles north-east of the centre of Paris.

Who has Wilson Odobert played for? Career so far

Wilson Odobert began his football journey at USF Trilport in 2010, and his talent was spotted by Paris Saint-Germain, who signed him for their academy in 2017.

PSG offered him a professional contract in January 2022, but he rejected the offer, opting instead to move elsewhere.

In the summer of 2022, Odobert joined Troyes on a free transfer, and made his professional debut in a 3–2 Ligue 1 loss to Montpellier on 7 August 2022.

He scored his first professional goal in a 3-1 league win over Angers on 28 August 2022, making him the second-youngest league goalscorer in Troyes’s history.

Odobert spent just one season at Troyes, making 32 appearances, as Burnley went on to sign him in the summer of 2023 for a reported £10million fee.

He scored his first goal in a 4–1 defeat to Chelsea on 7 October 2023, becoming the youngest Premier League goalscorer in the Clarets’ history.

Odobert closed his Burnley account on 35 appearances, and is now set to continue in the English top-flight with Tottenham.

How much did Tottenham pay for Wilson Odobert?

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham have paid £25million up front for Odobert, plus a further £5million in potential add-ons.

He has penned a five-year contract at Spurs, which is set to run until the summer of 2029.

What is Wilson Odobert’s style of play?

As per the above article, Odobert is direct, quick and assertive in one-on-one situations.

He is comfortable playing on either wing but he has been plying his trade on the left flank for the most part.

According to Target Scouting, Odobert ‘shines in 1v1 situations, his close control and dribbling abilities mean he is very astute at beating defenders in wide areas.’

They continued: ‘He can carry the ball at pace and utilise a quick drop of the shoulder to change direction, plus he will often dribble with the outside of his foot which also enables him to maintain his speed and weave in and out of defenders.

‘The former PSG youngster clearly loves to be in possession of the ball but he is very aware of his surroundings and knows when to release a pass to a teammate.

‘It has to be said, when receiving the ball Wilson is able to ensure that his body orientation allows for an optimal first touch to create space for him to either carry the ball or look for a teammate.’
