The long wait is over as the Premier League finally returns this weekend.

Admittedly, Tottenham Hotspur fans will have to wait just a little bit longer, as they’ve got the Monday night slot on matchday one.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has been putting his players through their paces, while the board has been busy getting new signings over the line.

On Monday night, Tottenham will get their campaign up and running away at newly-promoted Leicester City.

Spurs hit the ground running last season as Postecoglou’s coaching and man-management had an immediate effect on the players.

Tottenham remained firmly in the top-four picture for most of the season, but sadly, a downturn in form in April saw them slip out of contention.

Nevertheless, Spurs did enough to finish fifth, so a Europa League campaign awaits on top of the league and the domestic cup campaigns.

Plenty of pundits have been sharing their Premier League predictions over the last few days, including former Spurs aces Chris Waddle and Paul Robinson.

What has been said about Tottenham? Let’s take a look.

Leon Osman

The BBC Sport website shared predictions from 29 pundits, of which seven spoke about Tottenham.

Former Everton ace Leon Osman said: “Tottenham should improve so may go close but they could do with one more rapid centre-back, and it is always a rollercoaster with them.”

Sue Smith

Lionesses legend Sue Smith said: “Injuries massively hindered them last year but you feel another year under Ange Postecoglou and they will kick on. Dominic Solanke is a brilliant buy.”

Chris Waddle

The Spurs icon admits he is not confident about Tottenham this season.

“I am not sure about Tottenham,” he said. “They needed Solanke but it is hard to judge them off pre-season, because they were without a few regulars.

“Instead Ange has been using some young players who have come through the academy.

“One of them, Mikey Moore, looks like he will be part of the first-team picture this season which is a good thing, but I do think the squad is a little bit bare.”

Danny Murphy

The former Tottenham, Liverpool and Fulham midfielder said: “I’d imagine there are more signings coming in, and Ange has had another pre-season to tweak how he wants them to play.”

Michael Brown

The former Tottenham, Manchester City and Sheffield United defender said: “Their issue is are they good enough defensively?”

Paul Robinson

The former England goalkeeper, who played over 100 times for Tottenham, said: “Solanke is the number nine they have been missing, but at £65m they have overpaid for someone who has had one good season in the Premier League.

“He got 19 goals last season, but his best total in the top flight before then was six. Still, he has got a good engine and can press from the front and I think he will fit into the way that Ange wants to play.”

Chris Sutton

The former Blackburn, Chelsea and Celtic forward was confident about Tottenham’s hopes for the campaign.

He said on BBC Sport: “I am going with ‘Ange-ball’ to get fourth place!

“I know there were a few doubters at the end of last season and I actually met a Spurs fan on the plane on my way home from holiday who said he felt Postecoglou needed to be a bit more pragmatic, but that is not the way he works – he will double down with his attacking style.”

Gary Neville

The Manchester United icon said on the Stick to Football podcast: “I think that Tottenham fell away badly [last year], but they’ve got something.

“I think they’ve got something and I’m going for Tottenham [in fourth above Liverpool].”

Ian Wright

The Arsenal legend has backed Dominic Solanke to have an amazing season for Spurs.

“Dominic Solanke could be the signing of the season at £65m,” Wright said, also on the Stick to Football podcast.

“I like that move and I like the way he plays. I think, if he doesn’t get injured, then he will score lots of goals for them.”

Paul Merson

The Highbury icon told Sportskeeda: “Tottenham are dark horses for the top four in the Premier League this season.

“They’ve bought really well in the transfer market, and Dominic Solanke is a great signing.

“He’s got plenty of pace to burn and he’ll make his runs – that will help James Maddison as well.

Adrian Clarke

The former Arsenal midfielder reckons Tottenham could well make fourth, though he feels they will need some more signings.

He told the Premier League website: “I do feel that Tottenham Hotspur have a great chance of landing top four this season, but Ange Postecoglou will want more players to come in before the end of August that suit his style.”
