Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid’s Sporting Director Andrea Berta, but will face stiff competition for the transfer guru.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs interested in the 51-year-old as Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will be keen to add to his squad following a near-perfect start to life in north London.

Tottenham are on the lookout for Fabio Paritici‘s replacement after the Italian resigned in April and according to The Independent, Andrea Berta is at the top of their list.

Scott Munn is now the chief football officer, but it is believed that Berta would bring significant recruitment experience as Tottenham look to build on an impressive summer of business, despite the loss of Harry Kane.

Who is Andrea Berta?

Andrea Berta was born in Brescia in Italy and was a banker before he moved into the world of football. The now sporting director never played football professionally or managed a football club.

Berta became a sporting director and has been working in such a role since 2002. The Italian first job as a Sporting Director was for AC Carpenedolo where he worked from 2002-2006. His good work did not go unnoticed and this saw him move to Parma in 2007 and he was at the Italian club until 2009.

In 2009, Berta then became the sporting director of Genoa until 2012. He then attracted interest from Atletico Madrid and Peter Kenyon, who was financial director of the club, recommended the sporting director to the president of Atletico Enrique Cerezo.

They first hired him as a scout and technical director in 2013. Berta impressed the La Liga club and was credited for scouting and finding talented striker Antoinne Griezmann. He also developed a strong relationship with big football agent Jorge Mendes.

His successes in helping Atletico acquire top players was rewarded in 2017 when was named the Sporting Director at the Spanish club. He is still in this role now.

The Italian manager, who has been involved in the sporting world for over 20 years, is now 51 years old. He was born on January 1st 1972 and Andrea Berta was 30 years old when he joined AC Carpenedolo as a Sporting Director. Berta joined Atletico Madrid when he was 41 years old.

What has Andrea Berta achieved as a Sporting Director?

His successes as a sporting director when it comes to trophies his club have won have definitely come during his years at Atletico Madrid. Since Andrea Berta has been working at the Spanish club, they have won the La Liga title twice (2013/14, 2020/21), the UEFA Super Cup (2018/19), the Europa League (2017/18) and the Spanish Super Cup (2014/15).

He has also played a role in keeping manager Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid and this is a huge achievement because the Argentinian have led Atletico to so much success in during his tenure in the dugouts. Berta was the man who led the negotiations and convinced Simeone to sign a new contract at the club in 2017.
