Romero’s ability to be the captain of Tottenham has constantly come into question, and it would appear now that Roberto De Zerbi might have made up his mind on the Argentine defender.

Tottenham hope Atletico Madrid still want Cristian Romero

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are desperate for Atletico to come back in for Romero this summer.

There is a real consensus that with Marcos Senesi in advanced talks to sign from Bournemouth, Tottenham would welcome interest in Romero.

De Zerbi is looking to add some real quality to his squad this summer, and as a result, some of the current crop could be offloaded.

Romero has done some good things since signing for Tottenham, but strengthening the rearguard has to be considered a priority for De Zerbi.

Diego Simeone looks like the ideal manager for Romero, and playing in La Liga could suit his robust style of play, with the player likely to welcome the chance to remain in the Champions League.

Romero has played 156 times in total for Tottenham, but it’s hard to imagine too many fans being overly concerned if he leaves to be replaced by Senesi from Bournemouth this summer.
