Tottenham Hotspur have several top talents on their books, some of whom have gone out on loan.

Alfie Devine and Luka Vuskovic are two such players, having left Spurs in the summer to link up with Belgian outfit Westerlo.

Both Devine and Vuskovic have been tipped for bright futures at Tottenham and are currently cutting their teeth in the Belgian top flight.

And last Saturday, two players who could well be part of Spurs’ future went up against one of their past icons, namely Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian defender formed part of one Tottenham’s strongest ever centre-back pairings, alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen.

Now, Alderweireld plies his trade for Royal Antwerp, who came up against Westerlo on Saturday.

So, what happened when Devine and Vuskovic came up against Alderweireld at Het Kuipje?

Toby Alderweireld scores brace as Antwerp break Westerlo hearts

Sadly, it wasn’t a great day for the Tottenham duo, as the N17 legend scored a brace for the visitors, including an injury-time winner.

Alderweireld opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a powerful header, though Matija Frigan equalised for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.

It looked as though both sides were set to share the spoils, only for Alderweireld to stun Westerlo with a 94th-minute looping header.

Westerlo currently sit eighth in the 16-team Belgian top flight, with 11 points from eight matches.

Meanwhile, Antwerp are third in the standings, with 13 points from their eight games. They are six points behind leaders Genk, who have 19 points from a possible 24.

Trivia

As per football.london, Alderweireld was in the Tottenham team on the day that Devine became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer in the FA Cup tie at Marine as a 16-year-old.

However, the veteran defender had left the pitch at half-time, while Devine came on at the start of the second half, so the two didn’t share the pitch at the same time.

Tottenham ran out 5-0 winners at Marine in the game, which took place on 10 January 2021.
