What Guglielmo Vicario once did to infuriate West Ham star in humiliating defeat, ‘a lack of respect’

It is fair to say that one West Ham United player was not happy with Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario when they met in 2023.

The two are set to go up against each other again this Saturday when Tottenham travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham.

Thomas Frank has an excellent record against West Ham, so some Spurs fans will be feeling quite confident.

One West Ham player, though, will perhaps be more desperate to win than anyone else on the day.

Guglielmo Vicario pulled faces at Callum Wilson in 2023 clash

Tottenham have got the better of Callum Wilson in the past, including in one game when the striker was still at Newcastle United.

In December 2023, Spurs beat Newcastle 4-1, with Vicario saving a header from Wilson at the end of the match.

The Italian produced a fiery reaction to the save, something that Wilson did not appreciate. His antics in general were seen as disrespectful by the 33-year-old.

When Wilson spoke to Sky Sports about his altercation with Vicario after the game, he said: “The goalkeeper starts pulling faces and messing around and it’s just a lack of respect, I thought.”

Wilson will be looking to build on the goal he scored against Nottingham Forest just before the international break, but netting on Saturday may be a challenge.

The Englishman will be coming up against Cristian Romero, one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

After Son Heung-min’s exit, you can argue that Romero is now the face of Tottenham and perhaps their best player.

Callum Wilson’s record against Tottenham

Wilson’s record against Tottenham is not outstanding, but it could be a lot worse.

In his career, the England international has managed to win a few games and score a few goals against them.

He will have the chance to improve on it on Saturday, but you would back Spurs to claim all three points. They have made a better start to the season compared to Graham Potter’s side, who were shocking before their victory over Forest.
