Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal to sign one of the K-League’s hottest young prospects in FC Gangwon winger Min-Hyeok Yang.

Spurs have reportedly agreed to a deal with Min-Hyeok Yang. The South Korean is subject to a medical, then will hopefully sign his official contract shortly after.

Yang is expected to stay at FC Gangwon until January and then link up with Postecoglou’s squad during the winter window.

The North London club are continuing their pursuit of looking to recruit some of the best young talent from around the globe having also recently signed the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Luka Vuskovic.

Tottenham have now identified their latest star for the future, who is seen as the heir to Heung-min Son’s throne at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, it’s another top Premier League winger who he has been compared to.

What position does Min-Hyeok Yang play?

The Spurs News spoke exclusively to South Korean journalist Jason Lee to find out more about the winger.

Speaking about Yang’s best position, Lee told the site: “The best thing about Yang is that he’s equally comfortable on both wings. He’s played 13 games as a right winger, and 11 games on the left.

“Because he’s so two-footed and adept with the ball at his feet, you can play him on either wing and expect him to beat his man, get in dangerous areas, and either showcase his exceptional finishing or cut back to the players waiting in the box.”

Which player is Min-Hyeok Yang most like?

Yang was always going to draw comparisons to fellow countryman and Tottenham legend Heung-min Son being an exciting, two-footed South Korean winger.

However, whilst there are many stylistic similarities between the two, Lee compared the 18-year-old to another top Premier League wideman.

“I think the obvious answer would be Heung-min Son, but it’s an imperfect comparison. Like I mentioned before, he’s comfortable finishing with both his feet like Son. Moreover, I would argue that his finishing is better than Son’s was when he was 18. However, the obvious similarities end there,” said Lee.

“He’s smaller and a touch slower than Son but he makes up for it by being a superior one versus one dribbler than his fellow countryman.

“I also remember reading a report from a data analysis expert, and the player comparison in that article was Anthony Gordon of Newcastle.”

In terms of Yang’s play style, Lee added: “He’s an Ange Postecoglou winger. The perfect young player that Postecoglou can mould for his system. Young, fearless, and eager to take on his man.

“As I mentioned previously, he is an exceptional dribbler and will beat his man more often than not. His finishing is superb for his age, and the composure he shows in dangerous positions is exceptional.

“If he can mature a bit physically, he should not be a liability on the defensive side as well. He’s already well known in the K League for his relentless pressing, and I’m sure time under Ange will only help him grow and develop that side of his game.”

What is Min-Hyeok Yang’s potential?

Aged just 18 still, Yang has a long way to go before reaching his peak and the winger will have been signed as one for the future.

But to find out just how big a talent the South Korean forward is, The Spurs News asked Lee what level he could reach.

“If you’re familiar with my work, you will know that I hate to use hyperboles and overexaggerate a player’s potential. That being said, objectively speaking, Yang is the most exciting young player we’ve seen the K League produce – ever,” Lee told the site.

“He’s 18 and naturally, there’s going to be a lot of volatility. But he’s in the same bracket of potential as Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, and Mikey Moore for me. Be patient, let him work with Postecoglou, and we very well may see the heir to Sonny.”

Is Min-Hyeok Yang ready to play for Tottenham?

As mentioned, the winger is due to join the club in January rather than straight away, indicating he is a player Tottenham are willing to wait and let develop his game.

Lee told The Spurs News a similar story, explaining that Yang will likely need to head out on loan before we see him in the first-team squad.

“As a Spurs fan myself, I’m hoping that we see a situation where we don’t consider him for the first team right now. Ideally, there are more established players in front of him that he will be challenging in 1 or 2 years time,” said Lee

“He’s set for a six-month loan back to his K League team, Gangwon FC, and then he’ll join the club in January. My hope is he’ll have six months to train with Tottenham and Postecoglou, adapt to the English culture and football, and then we can see how he does at a Championship side first in 2025/26.”
