When it comes to players available to Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi, it’s a case of every little helps.

Tottenham have had the most injuries to first-teamers by some distance this season, with a full starting eleven of players currently either on the sidelines or not yet completely available for selection.

🤕Who should replace Xavi Simons in the team after his devastating injury prognosis?

On Saturday in the 1-0 win over Wolves – Tottenham’s first Premier League victory of 2026 – Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons both picked up injuries that will likely rule them out for the rest of the campaign.

With attacking options in short supply for Tottenham, De Zerbi has taken the chance to look at some of the younger players available to him ahead of a trip to Aston Villa this weekend.

Tottenham striker Mason Melia trains with the first team

According to Alasdair Gold of Football London, Melia has been in training with the senior ranks this week ahead of Sunday’s huge clash with Villa away from home.

Melia signed for Tottenham in January from St Patrick’s in Ireland and has been playing for the under-21s in their Premier League 2 campaign.

He may only have scored once in three appearances, but clearly the youngster has done enough to tempt De Zerbi to invite him over for first-team training.

When St Pat’s were thrashed by Besiktas in the Europa Conference League back in August, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed Tottenham had got themselves a very good player, with the deal for him to move to North London already agreed.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the injuries to Simons and Solanke prompt De Zerbi to give youth a go, and it would appear that the youngster is in training with the team.

It would be a very bold call for De Zerbi to give Melia a place in the squad at the weekend and now it remains to be seen whether he can make an impact between now and the season’s end.
