Tottenham Hotspur have made quite a name for themselves when it comes to signing young players with a bright future.

For instance, Spurs struck gold with the signing of Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie, both of whom are now established Premier League stars.

Neither player was particularly well known in the UK upon signing for Tottenham, but they have certainly made names for themselves now.

Lucas Bergvall has shown similar potential since arriving at Spurs this summer, and Yang Min-hyeok also looks like a star in the making.

Now, another young player who Tottenham have signed and who is set to join next year has been named by The Guardian as one of the best teenage footballers in the world.

Luka Vuskovic a ‘truly generational talent’

The player in question is Luka Vuskovic, who will join Spurs from Hajduk Split next summer after a deal was agreed back in 2023.

The 17-year-old defender is currently playing on loan at Belgian club Westerlo, where he is making a real name for himself.

Vuskovic has made 10 Jupiler Pro League appearances for Westerlo and, staggeringly for a defender, has four goals and one assist to his name.

The Tottenham-bound player is also already playing at Under-21 level for Croatia, and his last outing – in the 3-2 win over Greece U21s – saw him score the winner.

The Guardian has named Vuskovic in their Next Generation list of the 60 best youngsters in world football.

‘His older brother Mario was one of the Guardian’s Next Generation 2019 picks but even then coaches – and Mario himself – were saying that Luka was the truly generational talent,’ wrote Alex Holiga.

‘Hajduk Split gave him his senior debut as soon as he turned 16 and was allowed to play for the first team.

‘Two days after his birthday he started the derby against Dinamo – and a week later he scored his first goal.

‘A complete defender and a dominant player even at senior level, Vuskovic has incredible potential, and is now confidently showing it in Belgium on loan from Hajduk.

‘He will be at Spurs from the summer though after they snapped him in a record-breaking sale for the Croatian club.

‘Jacek Kulig gave him a very rare 10/10 “potential rating” on his Football Talent Scout blog, rating him as “world class potential” with “no significant weaknesses”.’

Tottenham struck gold with Vuskovic signing

Tottenham made a significant investment in Vuskovic, having reportedly paid £12million to sign from Hajduk Split when he was just 16 years old.

However, the progress he is showing is nothing short of staggering.

Any player getting four goals and one assist from 10 top-level league appearances is impressive. But when a 17-year-old achieves such a feat, it’s amazing.

And when the player in question is also a defender, it’s simply mind-blowing.

Needless to say, it’ll be exciting to see how Vuskovic continues to develop this season, and it’ll be especially exciting when he joins Tottenham next year.
