AC Milan produced a big upset in the Milan Derby as they defeated Inter in the away match with former Tottenham star Emerson Royal one of the best players on the pitch.

In the summer, Emerson joined the European giants in a deal from Spurs worth around £15 million – which at the time looked quite excessive.

The 25-year-old has had a mixed start so far at the San Siro, but against Milan’s biggest rivals, he produced a strong display.

The win saw Paulo Fonseca’a side move level on points with Inter and into 7th place leaving the race for the Serie A title wide open.

Emerson Royal’s superb display vs Inter Milan

Emerson had a tricky first-half against Inter as he was partly at fault for the opening goal as Federico Dimarco was left free to score.

However, into the second-half and the defender’s performance transformed – he was superb and arguably one of the best players on the pitch. He produced several key moments in defence and was also good going forward.

He helped keep quiet one of Europe’s best attackers Lautaro Martinez who had a frustrating evening against the Rossoneri. Milan ended up scoring a late winner in the 89th minute with Matteo Gabbia netting the decisive goal.

Milan fans impressed by Emerson Royal’s second half vs Inter Milan

After the match, Milan fans jumped over to social media to share their praise for the Brazilian’s display in the second-half. Emerson has been frustrating so far in Milan, but in the derby, he played a very strong match.

One fan said: “Emerson Royal played with courage, and tonight no one will say it because they have built him up to fail, but I say it, the Brazilian played a great match.”

“He got it together in the second half. Still, the first goal was his fault, but the second 45 minutes in defence he was solid, and in attack, he should have easily had two assists,” another added.

There was yet more praise for the Brazilian’s second-half display: “Emerson Royal between the first and second half reads tweets and decides to silence everything with a sumptuous second half.”
