Ange Postecoglou was spotted conversing with James Maddison after the midfielder came off the bench to fire home a free-kick.

Tottenham Hotspur comfortably defeated Aston Villa 4-1 as they jumped up into seventh place and just two points of the top four.

Dominic Solanke also returned to the scoresheet as he netted a brilliant brace with two great finishes whilst Brennan Johnson started Spurs’ revival with an equaliser.

Maddison being dropped to the bench will have been a big talking point from the match but he produced an emphatic response with a wonderfully struck free-kick.

Ange Postecoglou embraces James Maddison

Ange Postecoglou was spotted having a special moment with James Maddison after the 4-1 win as he embraced the midfielder following a tricky spell.

Maddison’s place in Postecoglou’s team has been cast into doubt recently and against Villa, the 27-year-old was dropped for Pape Matar Sarr.

The England international was visibly upset at being dropped again by the manager, however, he came off the bench looking like he had a point to prove and stuck a free-kick in the top corner.

That could be a key moment in his Spurs career with Postecoglou showing his appreciation for the midfielder’s contribution and looking as though he was trying to fire him up.

Will James Maddison start for Tottenham vs Galatasaray?

Cristian Romero and Richarlison both came off injured against Villa and now seem unlikely to feature against Galatasaray on Thursday. The duo join Micky van de Ven and Wilson Odobert on the sidelines.

Maddison is expected to return to the team and feature in a completely reshuffled midfield alongside Lucas Bergvall and Yves Bissouma.

Tottenham’s predicted line up vs Galatasaray: Forster; Udogie, Davies, Dragusin, Gray; Bentancur, Bergvall, Maddison; Moore, Werner, Solanke.
