Tottenham fans have a theory as to why Destiny Udogie had a shocker vs Brighton

Destiny Udogie had a disastrous afternoon at the Amex Stadium as the Italian produced one of his worst performances in a Spurs shirt.

Ange Postecoglou’s team suffered an inexcusable collapse on the south coast as they gave up a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Brighton. Tottenham’s players looked totally rattled after Yankuba Minteh pulled one back for the hosts and just 18 minutes later, they found themselves behind.

It was a day to forget for Udogie who put in a disappointing display as he played a part in all three goals the Lilywhites conceded. But Spurs fans have a theory as to why the defender had such a shocking performance against the Seagulls.

Tottenham fans’ Destiny Udogie shocker theory vs Brighton

Tottenham fans believe Destiny Udogie has not looked fully fit since making his long-awaited return from injury. The Italian suffered a bad quad injury back in April which required surgery and kept him sidelined until early August.

The 21-year-old hasn’t been able to produce the same levels of performance he was before he picked up the injury and Spurs fans are now calling for him to drop out of the team. They think Djed Spence should be given a chance at left-back and have taken to X to share their thoughts on Spence and Udogie.

One fan said: “In an abject second half this ‘defending’ was the ultimate low. Udogie’s been poor most of the season (I don’t think he’s fit) and it’s feeble from Bentancur who looked off it even when we were playing well. Spence, Dragusin, Bissouma and Sarr all sat on the bench at this point.”

“Udogie is not fully fit and shouldn’t be playing ahead of Spence. Hasn’t been the same player since he got his full contract,” added one supporter.

There were yet more calls for Spence to start against West Ham, with another fan stating: “Not using Spence more could be his downfall. Udogie wasn’t fit and on a yellow why not put Spence on and Dragusin for Romero. Spence is getting the Lo Celso treatment!”

How Tottenham could lineup vs West Ham: Will Heung-min Son be fit?

Tottenham are hoping Heung-min Son will be fit after the international break so he can return to take Timo Werner’s spot in the lineup. The German has looked really poor in the three games he has played, missing a hateful of chances.

Spence in for Udogie is likely to be the only other swap with Postecoglou set to make just two changes to his team from the defeat to Brighton.

Tottenham’s predicted line-up vs West Ham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Maddison, Kulusevski; Johnson, Son, Solanke.
