Tottenham’s focus towards the end of the season will revolve around keeping their current squad intact, with Thomas Frank very keen for one player to sign a new deal with the club.

The new manager has been spending the first few weeks of the new season understanding who makes up his best XI, and may have got some of his answers when he rotated heavily for the Premier League game against Brighton.

The likes of Xavi Simons, Djed Spence and Pape Matar Sarr all dropped to the bench following their Champions League victory, but the subs changed the game as they fought back from 2-0 down to pick up a point.

One player who was deemed too important to drop is Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been a regular since Frank took over the job in the summer.

Tottenham ‘desperate’ for Rodrigo Bentancur to sign new contract

It has been reported that Frank is a big fan of Bentancur, however the club will be well aware that his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Spurs News that the club are ‘desperate’ to tie the midfielder down to a new deal.

He said: “Bentancur is interesting. Yeah, they really want to do that. So, we’ll see how it goes with that. so we’ll keep an eye on that one.

“His contract expires in the summer, so, they’re really desperate. They love him and I think Bentancur will get done but yeah they want to do him because Frank likes him. He’s a top-notch operator.”

It comes off the back of him playing an important role in Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side, with the former manager praising him as ‘fantastic’ (Sky Sports).

Spurs will be hoping they can nail his contract down in the coming months, and avoid a situation where a very important player has the opportunity to sign a pre-agreement to join a club in Europe in January.
