‘Top class’… Micky van de Ven says £22m Tottenham player has wowed him in training

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has admitted Heung-min Son is the toughest player to face in training.

Champions League football is the target for Ange Postecoglou’s men going into the business end of the season.

And exciting squad is being built in north London with Micky van de Ven impressed with what he’s seen.

And they will be looking to the likes of Heung-min Son to provide the difference when they face top four rivals Aston Villa this weekend.

Van de Ven wowed by Son

The addition of the Dutch defender has been one which can be looked back on as a huge success by the recruitment team.

Van de Ven has earned huge prasie from Postecoglou already and is playing a significant role in the starting XI.

But it seems the 22-year-old is also impressed with the talent on display at Hotspur Way.

Speaking to Mark Schwarzer on Optus Spot, the centre-back has hailed the club captain, Son. He said: “Yeah, [I rate him] really high. Top class player also. As a captain, as a person on and off the pitch, on the pitch, he’s always the one who wants to lead the team.

“Off the pitch, he’s always thinking about football. Of course, you have some personal conversations with him also but he’s always thinking about football and on the pitch you see how class he is.

“His touches, his finishing, on the pitch he’s keeping up sharp and he always goes in front of the team.”

And when asked if he’s one of the hardest to face in training, Van de Ven replied: “Yeah I think so.”

How many goals Heung-min Son has scored

A season which has been interrupted by an international tournament has not stopped Son from hitting form.

The £22m South Korean came into the season on the back of a campaign to forget under Antonio Conte.

But he has returned to his absolute best under Postecoglou with 19 goal involvements (13 goals) to his name in the Premier League.

It is perhaps even more impressive considering he is doing it without Harry Kane and with the responsibility of being club captain.

Looking to the summer, Son will have just one year remaining on his current deal at Spurs.

But reports now suggest Spurs are looking to step up talks with the 31-year-old to extend his stay in north London.

It is clear Son is showing no sign of slowing down, and he will need to be at his best on the weekend for the trip to Villa Park.
