Tottenham Hotspur fans will now be turning full attention towards the new Premier League campaign after seeing international tournaments end on Sunday.

The summer of international football is now over as Euro 2024 and Copa America came to an end.

Argentina – unsurprisingly – won the latter, beating Colombia 1-0 in the final as Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal of the game.

That is three major tournament victories in a row for Argentina having won the Copa America title either side of clinching the World Cup in 2022.

The Euro 2024 final ended in heartbreak for many Tottenham Hotspur fans though as England came up short against Spain.

Mikel Oyarzabal’s late goal handed Spain the win in Berlin, meaning England have lost back-to-back European Championship finals.

Tottenham Hotspur players celebrate Spain win

There were no Tottenham players in the England squad this time around but former Spurs hero Harry Kane was leading the line for England.

James Maddison missed out on an England call-up and the same went for three Spaniards in the Tottenham ranks.

Bryan Gil has only picked up four caps for Spain and none since 2021, whilst Sergio Reguilon – also uncapped since 2021 – only picked up six caps for Spain.

Neither were seriously in contention for Spain this summer but Pedro Porro’s omission was rather more surprising.

Porro enjoyed a strong season with Tottenham, performing as one of the Premier League’s best right backs.

Spain overlooked Porro though, preferring to go with Jesus Navas as cover and competition for Dani Carvajal at right back.

All three Spaniards had to watch Sunday’s final from afar, but they were all delighted to see the final result.

Gil took to social media straight after the final whistle to celebrate his nation’s success in Germany.

“Congratulations, you have taken the country and our sport to the top once again!!” said Gil, whilst Reguilon simply went with ‘campeones vamos’, loving Spain being European champions once again.

Porro admitted feeling ‘excitement, joy and pride’ upon seeing Spain win the trophy, loving that Spain are back at the top of the game.

“Congratulations!!!!!!! We are European champions. Excitement, joy and above all pride for all of you. To the top once again!” said Porro.

Porro will be looking to kick on at Tottenham and prove that he deserves caps moving forward, especially with Carvajal and Navas both in their 30’s.

Caps for Gil and Reguilon are a little more unlikely as they struggle for playing time at Tottenham, but they will still have dreams of returning to the Spain setup after Euro 2024.
