Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke has been named in the England squad for the first time in seven years.

On Thursday, the Spurs summer signing made the cut in Lee Carsley’s latest Three Lions squad for their upcoming Nations League double-header.

Solanke has been rewarded for his efforts over the past 12 months, during which he was prolific for Bournemouth and earned himself a move to Tottenham.

The 27-year-old, who was injured for England’s games last month, joined the Lilywhites in a £65milllion deal from the Cherries over the summer.

After finding his feet at Tottenham, Solanke has scored in his last three games for his country, earning himself a spot in Carsley’s latest team.

England host Greece at Wembley in a 7:45pm BST kick-off on Thursday 10 October, before then playing Finland in Helsinki in a 5pm BST kick-off on Sunday 13 October.

Solanke now has the chance to add to the lone England cap he earned seven years ago.

Who did the Spurs man play against on the day, and who were his teammates? Indeed, who was on Tottenham’s books at the time? The Spurs News takes a closer look.

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke earned first England cap in Brazil friendly

Solanke received his first England cap on Tuesday 14 November, when the Three Lions – then managed by Gareth Southgate – hosted Brazil in a friendly at Wembley.

The game finished as a 0-0 draw, a match in which, as per BBC Sport, ‘Brazil’s greater quality and assurance in possession meant England spent much of the game on the defensive.’

Solanke, then playing for Liverpool, came on as a 74th-minute substitute in London, replacing Jamie Vardy.

As per BBC Sport, he ‘almost made it a dream debut in the closing seconds, only to mis-control at the far post.’

England played in a 5-3-2 formation on the day. Joe Hart was in goal, while Ryan Bertrand, Harry Maguire, John Stones, Joe Gomez and Kyle Walker started in defence.

The starting midfield was composed of Jake Livermore, Eric Dier and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, while Marcus Rashford and Vardy started up front.

Solanke was one of five substitutes on the day. Danny Rose, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Tammy Abraham also came on during the match.

Jordan Pickford, Angus Gunn, Kieran Trippier, Gary Cahill, Michael Keane, Jack Cork and Lewis Cook were the unused substitutes.

As per Opta, via BBC Sport, the average starting age for England on the day was 25 years and 148 days.

Which players were on Tottenham’s books at the time?

Dier, Rose and Trippier were playing for Tottenham at the time, while Walker left a few months earlier, and Livermore left three years earlier.

Hart went on to join Spurs in 2020/21, though he was playing for West Ham – on loan from Manchester City – at the time of the England v Brazil friendly.

None of those who were on Tottenham’s books on that day remain at the club to this day.
