Ryan Mason is close to being appointed as the new manager of Belgian club Anderlecht with negotiations ongoing with Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Spurs midfielder has been a coach at the club since April 2018 having worked with the youth teams at Tottenham.
Following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho, Mason was appointed interim manager and became the youngest Premier League manager aged just 29.
The 33-year-old has since worked alongside Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou and has recently become a big part of the Aussie’s coaching staff.
But Anderlecht now believe is his moment to become a full-time manager following advice they were given from a former Tottenham star.
Jan Vertonghen puts in a good word for Ryan Mason at Anderlecht
Jan Vertonghen put in a good word for Mason at Anderlecht with the Belgian international having played with him at Spurs, according to Paul O’Keefe. Anderlecht are now in advanced talks to appoint him as their new head coach.
Vertonghen is currently the club captain at Anderlecht where he has been playing since 2022 following a two-year stint at Benfica.
Vertonghen and Mason played at Spurs together at Spurs between 2014 and 2016 until the midfielder moved to Hull City.
Mason takes over an Anderlecht side who are currently sat 4th in the Belgian Pro League and who have won both of their opening Europa League group stage matches.
Do Tottenham have plans to replace Ryan Mason?
According to Paul O’Keefe, Tottenham have no immediate plans to replace Mason with Nick Montgomery having taken on a more prominent role. Since the arrival of Montgomery over the summer, Mason’s coaching role under Postecoglou had been reduced.
Montgomery arrived at the North London club after Birmingham City pinched Chris Davies from Ange’s coaching setup. But in regards to replacing Mason, Spurs have no plans to bring in another coach for now.
