Tottenham Hotspur have certainly turned a corner since their North London derby defeat, going on to win their last five games in all competitions.

Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring for Spurs in the 23rd minute before Brennan Johnson doubled the Lilywhites’ lead in the 86th minute.

And though Barnabas Varga struck late on for a nervy finale, Tottenham hung on to secure their second consecutive win in the tournament.

Johnson’s goal was his fifth in five games, a remarkable turnaround since he deactivated his Instagram account in wake of the North London derby loss.

The Wales international’s turnaround has led to praise from pundits, including Paul Merson.

Paul Merson hails Tottenham trio Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison

Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, named Johnson as the Spurs player whose upturn in form has impressed him the most.

The pundit also praised Dominic Solanke and James Maddison for how they have been doing lately.

“Dominic Solanke is slowly starting to find some form,” wrote Merson.

“The same goes for a lot of the other players, especially Brennan Johnson.

“Not too long ago, Johnson looked like a fish up a tree. Take a look at him now!

“It’s the same with James Maddison, he looks a different player compared to a few weeks back.”

Brennan Johnson well and truly silencing his doubters

Once again, a player who was struggling for form and was receiving unacceptable levels of criticism has gone on to prove his doubters wrong.

At just 23 years of age, Johnson is still a very young player, and people needed to be more patient with him, not to mention sticking by him as he rode out a difficult spell.

Johnson is now on fire and long may it continue. Hopefully he will go on to impress when Tottenham take on Brighton this weekend.
