Tottenham have enjoyed an impressive start to their Premier League campaign despite the loss of Harry Kane, but club captain Son Heung-min has hinted Ange Postecoglou has already eyed up the striker’s replacement.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air for Tottenham and his rebuild has gone very well so far, in no small part, thanks to ‘signing of the summer’ James Maddison.

They have played six Premier League matches, winning four and drawing two. James Maddison has been a huge reason for this.

The attacking midfielder was exactly what Spurs needed. His creativity has been a great combination with the progressive style of Postecoglou and Son Heung-Min believes he could be key to their success.

Son believes James Maddison could be Tottenham’s next Harry Kane

Despite being in different positions, both Maddison and Kane definitely have a lot of similarities in how they play.

Speaking to The Evening Standard, Son praised Maddison. He said: “Obviously, Harry Kane is one of the best players in the world, but Madders thinks he can go to the same category as him. Taking the No.10 is not the easiest job, but he loves the pressure, loves the responsibility which makes a great player [even] more.

“In every single game he’s the star boy. He’s very, very clever. He always pictures before he receives the ball what he wants to do. His movement is very clever and he’s very unselfish. I don’t think people always see it. People see the stats [and say], ‘Look, he needs more goals, needs more assists’. But he’s doing an amazing job for the team with and without the ball.”

This is no doubt very high praise from the Spurs captain about Maddison, who signed for Spurs in the summer for £40million. It is definitely very deserved as Maddison has had a good start to the season.

In his six Premier League appearances, Maddison has four assists and two goals so far. You can definitely see why Son believes he could be key to helping replace Kane.

Hopefully the form at Spurs continues throughout the season. If Maddison continues playing at such a high level then there is no doubting that they can have a fantastic season.
