TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has provided an insight on how much Tottenham Hotspur may earn from their post-season friendly against Newcastle United.

Just three days after their season ends against Sheffield United, Spurs will play in Melbourne, Australia against the Magpies.

It will be a short trip with the Euros taking place just two weeks later, but it will be a profitable one for Tottenham.

How much Tottenham will earn from their Australia friendly

After playing on the Sunday against Sheffield United, Spurs will then play again on the Wednesday on the other side of the world.

It is a move which has sparked controversy across the board with the PFA having now been called upon to take action.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace owner has admitted Spurs could be earn a few million from the game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

However, he admitted there is more on offer for the Lilywhites, he said: “Well that’s why I was asking the question, ‘what is it worth now?’ Small millions, right, but clearly there is a reason behind it because you’ve got two football clubs; one of them, in Newcastle who have a completely different approach to money than the other.

“We know that Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy runs his football club in a certain way and no one can deny the economics of it. It’s successful, the trophy cabinet empty. Newcastle don’t have that problem, their owners want to spend money like drunken sailors, but they can’t.

“[It’s about] Brand… and what does that do? It generates revenue.”

What Martin O’Neill has said about the friendly in Melbourne

There is no doubt that this is a decision which has been made by Daniel Levy with the finances at the very front of his mind.

This all comes amid the ongoing PR disaster from the club to rise next term’s season ticket prices by six per cent.

As expected, that is something which has gone down like a led balloon with the Spurs faithful who shared their anger on social media.

But even former Premier League manager Martin O’Neill has criticised the decision to take part in this friendly game in Australia.

He told TalkSPORT: “Well then it’s a total nonsense. An absolute nonsense. To travel 21,000 miles to play a game just to boast your name around the world… I honestly think it’s an absolute nonsense.”

Considering a lot of the Spurs squad will then be heading off to the Euros just weeks later, before then joining up with the squad again for pre-season, it is a baffling decision.

Of course there will be marketing benefits for the club, as Jordan suggested, however, it has been a taxing season for Spurs where injuries have hit hard.

So it would have only been right to provide this group of players with the maximum time possible to rest up before they go again with their countries or in their pre-season preperations.
