Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has admitted he is trying to copy Pape Matar Sarr’s midfield displays.

The Uruguayan has had a difficult year having had to recover from two separate injuries over the last 12 months.

As he continues to work his way back into the side, Rodrigo Bentancur has admitted he is watching Pape Matar Sarr’s game as an example of what is expected.

Bentancur impressed by Pape Matar Sarr

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham may have surprise a few people this season after a summer of change in north London.

And perhaps one of the surprise packages has been the 21-year-old midfielder, Sarr.

He has played a huge role in the Australian’s plans for the season having earned himself 24 Premier League appearances.

Sarr has also recently been given the nod ahead of Bentancur as the Uruguayan continues to return to full fitness following his injury issues.

And in a recent interview with Sky Sports, the 26-year-old hailed the efforts of his Senegalese teammate this season. He said: “I know that above all I am a tactical and positional player but being a bit freer to attack feels very good. I am trying to copy the work Pape does in the position a little bit. He does it very well and that is what the manager wants from his No 8s, so I’m working on that.”

Postecoglou’s midfield options

It goes a long way to suggesting just how good the Tottenham midfielders have been this season when the experience Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg can barely get a sniff in the team.

This has even led to reports suggesting the Dane could be set to leave in the summer.

For Postecoglou, being able to now slowly ease Bentnancur back into the action is a real positive.

Although he scored in the game at Old Trafford back in January, it was apparent he was no where near full fitness.

And there is nothing to really suggest that Spurs fans will see the best of him before the end of the season.

After all, he is recovering from two serious injuries having not even had a pre-season due to his ACL injury.

The Uruguayan has recently been starting from the bench, but the recent display at Fulham may see a change following the international break.

Champions League football could well be waiting for Spurs next season and the 26-year-old will be an important figure in the Spurs squad.
