Pundit really doesn’t like what Ange Postecoglou has said after Tottenham’s loss to Fulham

Pundit Robbie Earle has admitted he did not like what Ange Postecoglou had to say after the defeat to Fulham.

It was an evening which all involved at Tottenham Hotspur will want to forget in a hurry after what unfolded at Craven Cottage.

But Ange Postecoglou’s comments after the game has clearly not gone down well with some.

What Ange Postecoglou said after Fulham loss

It was apparent the Australian was not pleased with what he saw during his side’s defeat on the banks of the Thames.

Spurs were second best throughout the game and it is a defeat which prevented them from going into the international break in fourth.

Following the game, Postecoglou insisted that fourth spot is not the target at Tottenham, he just wants to see development.

However, this did not go down well with some. Speaking on The 2 Robbies Podcast, Earle said: “I like part of it, but I don’t like it all. I don’t like it all. I mean, unless he’s saying something different in the dressing room, it could be [a front to] the public. And I just wonder and I said with [Jose] Mourinho and [Antonio] Conte, two very different types who will come out publicly. I’m wondering if he’s thinking this group is very different.”

“I just wonder if he feels that this group doesn’t respond well to that.”

Tottenham’s targets

There is certainly some merit in what Posteoglou is saying. What he wants to see at Spurs is progression and the sight of long-term success.

Spurs have secured Champions League football many a time now and are no closer to winning the league for it.

This is not to say that Daniel Levy will not be pushing for Spurs to secure Champions League football.

Off the pitch, there is most definitely a big financial reason for Spurs to target a top four finish.

At a time when FFP regulations are causing clubs major headaches, elite European football would offer Spurs more room to spend.

But there has been no indication this season that not playing European football has harmed Tottenham’s ability to land players.

Spurs have still gone out and secured some big additions to their squad and even beaten the likes of Barcelona to youngster Lucas Bergvall.

Although there is some truth in what Postecoglou is saying, there is still a clamour from the fans to return to the elite European stage.

And perhaps, after Fulham, these players are in need of a target being set as that was not a performance of a side battling for Champions League football.
