Tottenham lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, adding anxiety to the club’s fight for survival.
Once again, however, Tottenham have been left hard done by when it comes to the match officials, with Micky van de Ven very unfortunate not to get a penalty.
😡How on earth was the foul by Marc Cucurella on Micky van de Ven not a penalty?
Another absolute shambles from a referee! 😒
It’s quite remarkable that Tottenham haven’t had a single penalty in the Premier League this season, and in the last two weeks, the team have been denied two pretty conclusive penalties.
Following last night’s decision, the Premier League have posted on social media to let Tottenham know why they didn’t get awarded a penalty kick.

Premier League Match Centre explains decision to Tottenham
This is getting silly, and perhaps the powers that be at Tottenham should do what some other clubs do and demand answers from the PGMOL.
After last night’s game, Roberto De Zerbi was left incensed by the match officials and the VAR after Marc Cucurella appeared to manhandle Micky van de Ven into the goal from a corner kick.
Despite Cucurella getting a booking for the incident, a penalty wasn’t awarded, and now, the Premier League Match Centre have cleared things up.
They posted on social media: “The referee’s call of no penalty to Tottenham Hotspur was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that the action from Cucurella had ended before the ball was in play.”
Tottenham will be hoping they don’t go a full Premier League campaign without a penalty and one on Sunday against Everton would be ideal.
These decisions in the Premier League on a weekly basis are getting worse, however, and it’s just ridiculous that Tottenham haven’t had a penalty all season.
Last week against Leeds, James Maddison was seemingly fouled by Lukas Nmecha, but the referee waved away the protests.
Replays seemed to show that Cucurella was still grappling with Van de Ven when the ball was crossed, and Tottenham have every right to feel aggrieved with another decision this season.
