Paul Scholes thinks Thomas Frank at Tottenham now has the same problem Ruben Amorim had at Man Utd

Tottenham are in a bit of a transitional period under head coach Thomas Frank.

Much like last season under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have fired on all cylinders in the Champions League, but that has seen a stuttering situation in the Premier League.

Once again, Tottenham are looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone, rather than battling to secure a European place next term through the Premier League.

With Manchester United to play this weekend, Paul Scholes has shared what he thinks is currently happening at the North London-based outfit that isn’t too dissimilar to what the Red Devils have experienced.

What Paul Scholes thinks is going wrong at Tottenham

Tottenham play Manchester United with both teams in very different form at the moment.

The Red Devils have won their last three games against Manchester City, Arsenal and last weekend against Fulham.

In contrast, Spurs gained a valuable point against Manchester City at the weekend, but Frank hasn’t seen his team win a Premier League game since December.

Scholes has a theory what is going wrong for Frank at Tottenham and he believes Ruben Amorim experienced the same at Old Trafford.

He told The Good, The Bad and The Football: “Well, he did change formation, didn’t he? We talk about formation a lot. He went to a back four, didn’t he?

“From a back five. Like we said, for ages we’re united playing a back three. It’s just not Man United.

“I think Tottenham are exactly the same. They are not a back five, a back three, whatever it is.”

Frank trying desperately to revive Tottenham

It was noticeable that Frank went with three defenders at the back against City last week, and clearly, the former Brentford boss is trying to mix things up.

Scholes is right to suggest that shapes and strategies are spoken about a lot, and intriguingly, Spurs once again have loads of injuries, something that fans presumed was down to Postecoglou’s rigorous methods.

It will be fascinating to see if this formation sticks at Old Trafford on Saturday, and with United clicking in a 4-2-3-1 straight away under Michael Carrick, matching them up might be the way to go.

Frank knows that Premier League results will determine whether he stays in a job and it’s now down to the head coach to get things right and start climbing the Premier League table.
