Tottenham will hope to continue a decent start to the season when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this weekend. According to Paul Merson, they are the strong favourites to win and clinch three points.
Even though there was a lot of change at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the summer, Spurs have looked like a very stable team.
Danny Murphy has hailed new Spurs boss Thomas Frank for making them a much better defensive unit, keeping five clean sheets in their opening eight matches across all competitions. It has certainly played a part in them sitting third in the Premier League at this early stage of the campaign.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 11 | 5 | 6 | 15 | |
| 2 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 10 | 2 | 8 | 10 | |
| 3 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 10 | 3 | 7 | 10 | |
| 4 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 6 | 5 | 1 | 10 |
In contrast, Wolves sit at the bottom of the division table with zero points from their opening five league games. Vitor Pereira’s side will be hoping to take the momentum from their 2-0 home win against Everton in the Carabao Cup.

Paul Merson predicts Tottenham win against Wolverhampton Wanderers
According to Paul Merson, Spurs are going to secure a comfortable victory at home to Wolves on Saturday night during the 8pm kick-off.
Merson told Sportskeeda: “I couldn’t believe how Wolves lost last weekend. When they went 1-0 up, I thought the game was done and dusted but they got absolutely destroyed by Leeds! So in all honesty, I can’t see anything but a Tottenham win here.
“You take away that loss to Bournemouth and Spurs have been good. As long as they turn up and play the way Thomas Frank wants them to play, there should only be one winner here.
“I would say a top five finish would be great for Tottenham this season. They are truly capable of achieving it too. Liverpool and Arsenal can take care of themselves, so there are three more spots left. I won’t put Manchester United in that race, Aston Villa won’t be able to catch up unless they really get going. Newcastle? Maybe, but they have to be more consistent. If Spurs play their cards right, they can finish in the top five.
“Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Wolves.”
Alan Shearer praised Tottenham’s home atmosphere after last week’s Champions League win against Villarreal. Hopefully, they can recreate that for the upcoming visit of Wolves, who have been extremely tough opponents in recent times.

Tottenham’s worrying record against Wolverhampton Wanderers
Spurs fans won’t need reminding that they have massively struggled against Wolves across recent years. In fact, the North London club haven’t beaten them since 2022 when Antonio Conte was still their manager.
| Date | Result | Competition |
| 13 April 2025 | Wolves 4-2 Tottenham | Premier League |
| 29 December 2024 | Tottenham 2-2 Wolves | Premier League |
| 17 February 2024 | Tottenham 1-2 Wolves | Premier League |
| 11 November 2023 | Wolves 2-1 Tottenham | Premier League |
| 4 March 2023 | Wolves 1-0 Tottenham | Premier League |
| 20 August 2022 | Tottenham 1-0 Wolves | Premier League |
Even though there will be several changes on either side this weekend, the recent history of this fixture could end up playing a psychological role.
Hopefully, the new-look Spurs under Frank can prove their steel again to end this poor run against a struggling Wolves team.
