Alan Shearer was seriously impressed by the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after attending the Spurs win against Villarreal this week.

Tottenham produced a professional display to beat Spanish opposition Villarreal 1-0 in their opening group phase match of this season’s Champions League. For head coach Thomas Frank, it was an excellent start during his first-ever taste of Champions League football.

Next, Spurs return to Premier League action on Saturday with a difficult trip to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton.

The Spurs predicted line-up against Brighton includes a change from the midweek success in the Champions League.

Alan Shearer really impressed by Tottenham atmosphere

Premier League legend Alan Shearer was in attendance for Spurs’ narrow win over Villarreal in Europe earlier this week. In fact, he’s reflected on a brilliant atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which he massively rates as a football ground.

When asked what the atmosphere was like at Spurs vs Villarreal, Shearer told The Rest Is Football: “Yeah it was very good actually. There was great anticipation. It’s an unbelievable stadium. It is right that Champions League football is in that great stadium.”

Without a doubt, the Spurs home is one of the best stadiums in Europe, so we agree it deserves to host Champions League action on a regular basis.

After a two-year exile from Europe’s elite club tournament, the North London club are back where they belong.

Hopefully, Frank’s side can go deep into this season’s European competition. It’s a sign of how strong the group looks right now that Mathys Tel was excluded from the Champions League squad.

Tottenham should capitalise on kind Champions League draw

Spurs got off to the perfect start in the Champions League with three points on the opening night against Villarreal. If we look ahead, we’re confident that they can post a strong points tally during their remaining fixtures.

Last season in the Champions League, teams finished in the top eight and immediately entered the Round of 16 with 16 points or above. To finish between 9th and 24th to reach the knockout phase, clubs needed a minimum of 11 points.

The exciting young Spurs team are capable of challenging any side on their day, especially with this new-look defensive resilience under Frank.
