Liverpool are developing an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven, according to MailOnline.

Right now, the £43m defender is resisting the chance to sign a new deal with Spurs, which should be a real concern for the North London club.

The fact that Van de Ven does not want to renew his contract should be a strong indication that their project under Thomas Frank is going nowhere.

Van de Ven is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in Europe, and any of the elite clubs would jump at the chance to sign him.

Spurs should be doing everything within their power to ensure he remains at the football club, and they need to start matching the 24-year-old’s ambitions.

One of those clubs could well be Liverpool, who are in clear need of defensive reinforcements with Virgil van Dijk ageing and Ibrahima Konate coming to the end of his contract.

A deal for the defender would be very costly, given his contract is up in 2029, but there is every chance Van de Ven would push for a move to Anfield.
