Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League campaign comes to an end against Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon with Ange Postecoglou looking to finish on a high.

This has been another testing week in the life of a Tottenham Hotspur fan.

Some wanted Tottenham to lose to Manchester City in midweek, just in order to dent Arsenal’s title hopes.

Ange Postecoglou has been furious with that mentality and his frustration with Spurs fans has certainly cast a cloud over the final days of the season.

Tottenham now head to Bramall Lane needing to pick up a result over Sheffield United in order to secure fifth place.

Chelsea’s superb run of form leaves Tottenham in danger of losing that fifth spot on the final day.

Spurs really need to end the season on a high and secure Europa League football after a testing few weeks.

Kieran Trippier on Tottenham Hotspur friendly

There is no rest for Tottenham either as the Premier League season ends but Spurs immediately fly out to Australia.

Postecoglou takes Spurs to his homeland for a post-season friendly against Newcastle United – one which has caused some controversy.

With so many managers bemoaning packed schedules, jetting off to Melbourne within hours of the season ending for a money-spinning friendly is curious to say the least.

Fans are divided on the game and it seems one Newcastle player isn’t too keen on it either.

Kieran Trippier – the former Spurs right back – has now told The Mirror that he feels this friendly – which takes place next Wednesday – is ‘not ideal’.

Trippier highlighted that Euro 2024 is on the horizon so jetting off to Australia makes life difficult, even if he can understand why Newcastle are doing it.

The ex-Tottenham man is still ready to embrace the trip but is seemingly looking to get this game out of the way before most likely featuring for England at Euro 2024.

“My expression says it all! It’s not ideal because it’s a tournament year,” said Trippier. “I understand why the club is doing it. I’ve done it at Tottenham and [Atletico] Madrid but from my own experience of it – in a tournament year it’s not ideal. But we’re players, we’ve got to do what’s right for the club to move forward. When we’re there it’ll be good, we’ll embrace it and experience it. Hopefully it goes smoothly.”

“It’s not just England, you’ve got so many nations and clubs. Tottenham are doing it. But it’s one of those where you have just got to get on with it. But for me as a player it’s not really ideal. It’s not like it’s Benidorm round the corner, it’s 25 hours away. There’s no excuses or anything, I understand why the club is doing it and we’ve just got to get on with it,” he added.

How many Tottenham players will be at Euro 2024?

The planning certainly isn’t ideal, especially with Tottenham players preparing to go away with their countries too.

It’s unclear just who is going on the trip to Australia just now, but Postecoglou will no doubt want a strong squad with him.

That means Guglielmo Vicario, who should be in the Italy squad this summer, may be called upon.

Pedro Porro will be hoping for a call from Spain whilst Radu Dragusin should be a key man for Romania.

Micky van de Ven is in the Netherlands squad, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will almost certainly be in the Denmark side and James Maddison will hope to have done enough for an England call-up despite some mixed form.

Heading to Australia during valuable down time before Euro 2024 is certainly not ideal for those players and the sooner this game is over and done with, the better.
