Julian Alvarez has named a Tottenham Hotspur player as one of the toughest opponents he has ever had to face.
The 24-year-old is now at Atletico Madrid following his £81 million move from Manchester City and so far he has two goals in nine appearances for the Colchoneros.
Alvarez faced the North London club on four occasions and managed just one goal against them for Man City. Now, in a recent interview, he has named a Tottenham defender as one of the hardest challenges he has come up against in his career so far.

Cristian Romero one of the hardest opponents Alvarez has faced
Former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has named Cristian Romero as one of the hardest players he’s ever had to play against.
The Argentine claims that his aggressive style of defending makes him horrible to face. The Atletico forward also believes that Romero is now one of the best defenders in the world.
Alaverz told ESPN: “Cuti Romero and Licha Martinez. Cuti, because he’s very aggressive and one of the best defenders in the world now too.”
The Tottenham defender has played a key role in helping Alvarez and Argentina win two Copa Americas and a World Cup, so it’s no wonder he rates the 26-year-old so highly.
What does Cristian Romero’s recent discipline record look like?
As Alvarez points out, Romero has a very aggressive defensive style, which in turn has led him to develop a reputation for being ill-disciplined.
However, the World Cup winner has just one red card since the start of last season and seven yellows in his last 40 matches for Tottenham.
This campaign, the defender is yet to pick a single card and whilst he remains aggressive, he is starting to show a better understanding of when to hold back.
| Stat | Total |
| Appearances (All comps) | 40 |
| Goals | 6 |
| Assists | 0 |
| Yellow cards | 7 |
| Red cards | 1 |
Romero produced a sensational display in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday as helped keep a clean sheet and made several important defensive plays.
