As the majority of the Tottenham squad are taking their opportunity to prove their worth to the new manager, one key player has been forced to watch from the sidelines.

James Maddison suffered a serious knee injury during pre-season, ruling him out of the start of the campaign as well as the majority of the season.

The England international hasn’t been able to catch a break since making the move. He also missed out on the Europa League final victory against Manchester United last season.

Maddison joined Mathys Tel outside of the Champions League squad due to his injury, and now rehab begins to try and get him to feature at some stage of the 2025/26 campaign.

James Maddison posts emotional update after ACL injury

It will be a long period of time before he will even consider training again, and Maddison took to Instagram to show the hard times that come with the issue he is dealing with.

The 28-year-old posted an update on social media regarding his situation, showing his right knee equipped with serious medical equipment.

Shown via his Instagram story, the scar on his knee can also be seen after the surgery underwent following his injury in South Korea.

While there is no good time to pick up an injury of this magnitude, suffering it in a World Cup year will only provide more heartbreak for Maddison, who will have been hoping to break into the England setup before the tournament.

Maddison already facing uphill task to break back into Spurs side

Knowing that he would be out for the majority of the season, Spurs have put in the work to try and replace his impact in the first team squad.

They completed the hijack signing of Xavi Simons late in the transfer window, after it looked certain that he would be on the move to Chelsea this summer.

Mohammed Kudus is also in contention for a number of positions in attack, and they will both provide challenges to Maddison to break back into the side upon his return.
