Tottenham star James Maddison has taken to social media to wax lyrical about the ability of one of the club’s former strikers in front of goal.

The England international is currently forced to watch on from the sidelines due to a serious knee injury suffered during the pre-season tour of South Korea.

Maddison shared the difficulties he is facing with a photo of his knee kitted up with medical equipment during the international break, as well as showing off the scar from the surgery underwent.

In his time playing for his country, the attacking midfielder has had the opportunity to feature alongside former Spurs man Harry Kane, who established himself as one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen.

James Maddison hails former Tottenham star Jermain Defoe as ‘one of the best natural finishers’

Before Kane though, the North London side have had a number of talented forwards in their ranks, one of whom being Jermain Defoe.

The Englishman certainly knows a thing or two about finding the net, and last season Defoe gave his seal of approval to Dominic Solanke after Spurs spent big money to bring him in from Bournemouth.

For any striker coming in to the club, Defoe is amongst those who are seen as the measuring stick to compare themselves to.

Maddison has given some of the biggest praise possible to the ex-Spurs man on his Instagram story, describing him as one of best finishers in the league’s history.

He said: “One of the best natural finishers the league’s ever seen in my humble opinion.”

He was a favourite of former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, and was part of the same side where Peter Crouch was banging in the goals for them too.

The majority of his 57 England caps came during one of his two spells in North London, which was temporarily interrupted by a bref stint at Portsmouth.
