Pedro Porro called up for Spain

On Friday, it was announced the 24-year-old would be included for the latest international fixtures for the Spanish national side.

Somehow, the Spurs right-back has only been able to rack up two caps for his national side.

He has not featured in either of the two previous Spain squads with his last appearance coming in the 2-0 defeat away to Scotland.

The Spurs defender marked his call-up with a post on Instagram which saw some of his teammates share their congratulations.

“Very happy to return to the national team. It is always a great pride and honor to represent our country. Let’s go for it,” Porro said.

To which Maddison replied, “deserved brother” and Romero replied, “Yes Pedro” on Tottenham’s Instagram post.

Porro impressing Postecoglou

It is apparent it is not just Porro’s teammates which are delighted for him to receive the call-up.

Postecoglou has also spoken since the announcement to share his delight and perspective on how Porro has played this season.

And it has to be said, Porro has probably been one of Tottenham’s most important players this season.

It is testament to how well this group has adapted to their new manager that there are so many players in the conversation.

But Porro has been largely available – barring a minor issue recently – in a season which has been plagued by injuries.

And he has certainly provided in attack this season for Spurs with an impressive eight assists in the Premier League and a goal in the FA Cup.

The backline has looked like a real unit for years to come with Van de Ven and Romero having Porro and Destiny Udogie either side of them.

It’s a fully deserved call-up for Porro, but Spurs will be praying he doesn’t pick up an injury during their games against Colombia and Brazil.
